With funding support from Energy Saving Trust, The Cairngorms National Park Authority and Kingussie Community Development Company; Cycle Friendly Kingussie has invested in a fleet of electric bikes which has recently been extended with more bikes from HiTrans. Well over 100 locals have tried the bikes to date and with the new bikes wait lists should be massively reduced.
The aim of the e-bike project is to encourage more people in the town and beyond to switch to cycling for both leisure and everyday journeys to work or to the shops. Over the past four years we have been successful in encouraging more folk to ride regularly, both on and off-road, with our regular guided leisure rides. With the support we have received we can now offer people the opportunity to try an electric bike for everyday journeys. E-bikes make cycling so much more accessible and commuting so much easier. To buy one can be a significant investment and we are delighted to offer folk the chance to properly try an e-bike before they buy one for themselves
Bikes will be available for locals to try out either by joining one of the regular guided rides organised by Cycle Friendly Kingussie or to borrow on a slightly longer-term basis so individuals can try commuting to work or the shops on an electric bike instead of a car. Depending on demand bikes can be loaned for up to 12 weeks for a nominal £5 per week to contribute towards care and maintenance of the fleet.
We teamed up with Aviemore Bikes Aviemore to source our original e-bikes at a discounted rate and offer training and support to CFK volunteers.
